The Ministry of Science and Education of Ukraine and the social project “IT-schoolboy”, in which BrainBasket Foundation participates, have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. The document formalizes establishment of an expert committee on digital technologies implementation in schools held at the Ministry.
“All the best we have been able to do was performed with community organisations. We are facing significant challenges now. This is not just about the pupils, it is about the teachers, new content of education, modern digital content, new mechanisms of administrative processes in educational institutions and communication with the parents. All of this can only be done with the help of a community and information technology”, said Minister Lilia Grynevych.
The memorandum will combine the efforts of educators, experts and IT-business, who joined the “IT-schoolboy” project. They agreed to cooperate in developing a new computer science curriculum for 1-12 grades, modern teaching methods, textbook requirements, and school digital equipment. Particular attention is paid to the improvement of the skills of informatics teachers and the training of future teachers. For each of the directions in the future, separate working groups can be created.
There is already a positive experience of such cooperation. In early 2018, the “IT-schoolboy” project was launched at 3 pilot schools in Kyiv and Chernihiv region. The best practices of commercial IT schools are adapted and are now available to general education institutions. “We conduct free optional classes and help with technical equipment. Schools have already embraced the project. This program works in 14 groups for more than 200 children. The program for the semester covers development of websites, games, robotics, 3D printing and simulation, cybersecurity and cloud technologies, drones and added reality,” said the author of the project, the founder of HUB 4.0 Valerii Omelchenko.
