Information Technologies is one of the few professional fields, which is less affected in times of crisis. Since the IT-industry is increasingly focused not on the domestic but on the international market, working with foreign customers makes it possible not only to pay high salaries to its employees (mostly in foreign currency or with reference to exchange rates) but also to offer good working conditions. Also, according to the survey, the representatives of Ukrainian companies consider the development of information technologies most strategically important for Ukraine as well as agribusiness, agriculture, and manufacturing.
At the end of 2016 IT-specialists for the first few years were not included in the top 5 professional areas with the lowest competition. This is because the profession of programmer today is a very prestigious and highly paid. Wanting to change the type of activity, a lot of people are learning to program on courses or get the necessary skills for a few months on their own. Increasing the number of IT-specialists contributes to the growth of competition among them. However, now the competition level is not more than 2 people on the place, so finding a job to professional IT-person is still not difficult.
According to the analysis database of vacancies of hh.ua, Ukrainian labor market is in need of web-developers the most. Also, the majority of work proposals related to the design, front-end development, and development of mobile applications. Most mobile applications are based on iOS and Android, so the first thing employers are looking for professionals to develop on the basis of these operating systems. Top three programming languages, stated in the requirements for specialists are Java, C# and PHP.
Most employers indicate in the job knowledge of HTML. Also, Python meets the requirements quite often. Most often, job seekers expect a thorough knowledge of one programming language, at least – a few. As the review of salaries shows, most highly on the market are Java-programmers.
One of the main requirements which employers are putting forward to IT-specialists is obligatory knowledge of English language at the level of upper-intermediate and above. This is due not only to the specifics of working in IT, but also to the fact that more than 80% of all outsourcing Ukrainian IT-companies operate in foreign markets.
