BrainBasket Foundation launched the first 23 educational groups in of pan-Ukrainian education program Technology Nation. Free courses on programming based on programs from the world’s best technology universities will take place at the libraries in the regional centers of Ukraine.
The program turned out to be very demanded and interesting for people. Since the announcement we received more than 23,000 applications. Taking into consideration the number of applicants, we had to select the first group of participants not only by application forms but also by random selection.
Education will be held in the form of blended learning, which combines individual work of lecture material that is presented online with the practical exercises in classroom under the guidance of experienced mentors based on libraries throughout Ukraine. This will provide the students a good basis for further education and employment in the IT sector.
For 2 months of intensive preparation before the start of the project team of the Foundation held a number of productive meetings with representatives of Harvard and MIT on providing comprehensive support to the program and held a presentation and meetings with the City Administrations and IT communities in more than 20 cities of Ukraine.
The project is supported by the Administration of the President of Ukraine and partners – “Microsoft Ukraine”, “Navigator” and the NGO “Window of opportunity”. We were also very pleased that a number of companies recently joined the project, including, AMC Bridge, Bakotech, Ciklum, GlobalLogic, HeadHunter, Innovecs, Luxoft, MacPaw, Terrasoft, TheAppSolutions, Galaktika Corporation. and many people who donated their own technique to the libraries.
The education in the groups started in 23 cities. More than 800 people were invited to the first organizational classes (40 in each city), who acquainted with the course, the format of education and with mentors and were given the homework. After its implementation the rating of success will be drawn up, according to which the first 15 participants will be enrolled in the group, and the remaining will form “substitutes’ bench” (in case someone is not able to start training) and the following group.
We plan to open 100+ hubs in major cities of Ukraine by the end of the year. In this regard, we are open for cooperation and continue looking for the volunteers who can become mentors of program (IT specialists, active young university professors who meet the project’s requirements) and used computers to equip the libraries (minimum requirements: Processor: 1.5-2 Hz; RAM: 1-2 GB; OS: any that supports the installation Google Chrome).
