BrainBasket Foundation is launching Technology Nation educational ICT project in Bratislava and Kosice that aims to develop ICT-educational infrastructure in the regions.
Technology Nation is a social educational project initiated by BrainBasket Foundation. Participation in the project is free of charge and is targeting two age groups:
- Adults – young proactive people aged 21-35 who do want to be retrained in ICT
- Kids – children aged 9-11 that are willing to get first coding experience
Technology Nation Adults is a training program based on the course of Harvard and MIT Universities. Participation in the program requires no prior technical experience, the only selection criteria for enrolling is English at the upper-intermediate level or above and be a really self-motivated person. The course goes for 4 months, the classes are in a blended learning format (online + offline) meaning that the students will have to work with online lecture materials at home by themselves and practice coding under experienced mentor’s guidance during classroom studies. This allows the students to receive good fundamentals for further education and employment in ICT industry.
Technology Nation Kids is a 3-months course for schoolchildren, which covers basic principles of computer science and programming. The course is developed using gamification methodology based on “children’s” programming language Scratch (developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and is taught by mentors with experience in ICT.
The project has achieved big results in Ukraine – 62 educational locations were opened in Ukraine from earlier 2016 till today and more than 2000 adults and more than 200 children were enrolled in the Technology Nation program. Training is free of charge and does not require prior technical skills and knowledge.
In Slovakia, the project is being launched with the support of 0100 Campus, Comenius University, Intellica s.r.o in Bratislava and Košice IT Valley, TeleDom Group in Kosice, Pixel Federation.
The Foundation has already successfully launched a similar project in Moldova this month and plans to launch new hubs in Central and Eastern Europe in the nearest future.
“Most of the people in Slovakia are familiar with the information and communications technology. Somebody had already worked in ICT or engaged in it when working in other businesses, while someone just wants to try it. Of course, these newbies simply don’t know where to start. That’s why we are happy to offer a free course in programming fundamentals for all who want to try themselves in this new sphere”, says Vladimir Liulka, CEO of BrainBasket Foundation. “This project has proved itself useful in Ukraine, we have gained experience and now we are launching this course in other countries, including Slovakia. I’m sure that our initiatives will help Slovaks to make their shifting to ICT smoother and to find their first job as a technical specialist”, he added.
“Allowing people to learn basics of programming for free while getting a certificate from Harvard University is a great movement and I am happy to support BrainBasket Foundation in this initiative. I hope this will be a long-lasting project that will attract many people and help them to realize their dreams while making most out of their potential”, says Dusan Duffek, Partner & Co-Founder at 0100 Ventures.
“The Center for Continuing Education of the University of Comenius in Bratislava signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the BrainBasket Foundation. New or modernized IT knowledge acts as a springboard, which increases the professional competence of both the teaching staff and everyone individually. We welcome the fact that in Slovakia free education is offered, after completing which, you can get a certificate from Harvard University”, says Elena Skalska, partner of the BrainBasket Foundation and Head of education at the Center for Continuing Education at the University of Comenius in Bratislava.
