In Ukrainian schools, the innovative format of training is tested for IT-professionals of Solution Architects level

On June 29, 40 schoolchildren started training on the summer programming intensity called “JavaGR8 Summer Intensive”, which is the preparatory stage of the New Educational Model (NOM), which is a testing of the dual IT education program in Ukraine.

Among the initiators and founders of the project are the educational platform SmartMe University, the public organization “Innovation Development Fund”, BrainBasket Foundation, the IT Association of Ukraine and the State University of Telecommunications. The project is also supported by a number of domestic universities and leading IT companies represented in Ukraine.

Participants in the pilot launch of the program are graduates of Ukrainian schools who are winners of the third stage of the Olympiads in mathematics, physics, computer science and information technology.

Summer Intensive is based on the author’s program “Informatics” for 10-11 grades of the information technology profile, approved by the Ministry of Education and Science in 2015. The author of the course is Sergey Ichezeriakov – Candidate of Technical Sciences, Java-trainer who has already prepared more than 40 certified professionals at the level of Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE6 Programmer Oracle Certified Professional, Java EE5 Web Component Developer.

The possibility to participate in the summer intensive is provided by the Smartme University educational platform. According to the organizers, the course is an important element of the New Educational Model, since it allows companies to take on the internship of the student already with basic programming skills.

According to the results of the final test exam and the hakhaton, the graduates of the course will begin their education on the full-time form of the State University of Communications with parallel training in the best IT companies, such as EPAM, Ciklum, etc.

The new educational model itself includes elements of distance learning, individual learning, mentoring; And also uses courses from the best technological universities of the world and unique domestic developments. Thus, the organizers plan to solve the problem of breaking the theoretical knowledge that students receive at the university, with the requirements that IT companies make when selecting candidates. The purpose of the program is the preparation of IT-specialists of the Solution-architects level.

Dual education is a combination of a student studying in a university and working in a company. This idea was developed in Germany in the 70’s of the last century. Subsequently, Canada, Austria, Switzerland and a number of other countries adopted the initiative, where the principles of dual education are being successfully implemented today.
