The program is based on the CS50 course from Harvard University and the MIT 6.00.1x course from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The education itself was held in the blended learning format combining online lectures and offline classes under experienced mentors’ supervision.

“Today, more and more specialists from non-IT spheres want to join the IT industry and realize their potential. This project allows everyone to get necessary skills to take the first step in IT for free”, said Illia Onishchenko, Project Manager of Technology Nation.

In April 2016, the well-known philanthropist and founder of the International Renaissance Foundation George Soros supported the BrainBasket Foundation helping to cover the costs and make the program free of charge or the participants. The program was also supported by the Presidential Administration of Ukraine and several companies and organizations, including Ciklum, Microsoft, Navigator, NGO “Window of Opportunities”, ITVDN and many others. Thanks to their help more than 400 computers were donated to the libraries where the classes were held.

“We are very grateful to the mentors and coordinators of the project, without whom it would not have taken place. And we are sincerely grateful to the International Renaissance Foundation for their help, as well as to companies whose donations enabled us to equip more educational hubs”, said Volodymyr Liulka, Director of the BrainBasket Foundation, “It shows that companies understand the importance of developing IT education in Ukraine”.

The BrainBasket Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that develops IT education. BrainBasket aims to make the IT industry the driving force behind Ukraine’s economic growth by improving the educational infrastructure.
