2018 was very fruitful for BrainBasket as we launched a number of completely new courses and locations along with expansion of current projects.
The most significant project was the launch of WOW Teachers program — a web development course for school teachers of informatics and school students. This is our first project in secondary education and we see that demand for modern IT education in schools is incredible. The program was developed by a group of experienced mentors of the Fund in blended learning format. As a result, more than 500 most motivated school teachers of informatics took part in this project from all over Ukraine.
In parallel to this, we launched dozens of training groups to learn the basic of programming based on Harvard CS50 course, Scratch for kids and web design/web development for women on maternity leave. Accordingly, more than 2000 Ukrainians were able to receive a free and modern education while taking their first step towards IT. It became possible thanks to the support of our donors, primarily Ciklum and International Renaissance Foundation.
Thanks to the support of Astarta-Kyiv and Miratech, in 2018 we launched a large-scale social educational project “IT-education in the villages” and opened our learning hubs in 18 villages. We teach the basics of programming on Scratch and computer literacy for adults there.
In addition, the year 2018 was full of smaller-scale projects and partnerships:
♦ Development program on the fundamentals of robotics (it is publicly available).
♦ Launch of Scratch courses for kids in 6 cities in partnership with SAP.
♦ Conducting training for teachers who had chosen informatics for summer English-speaking school camps as part of the GoCamp initiative.
♦ Promoting Harvard CS50 Puzzle Day in Ukraine, where our country has taken the first place by the number of participants.
♦ Holding hackathon for graduates of our projects from 15 villages.
We express a special gratitude to our mentors, coordinators, partners and donors! These results became possible thanks to our joint efforts and we truly appreciate you support!
